Miraflores Locks Express Excursion

See the Panama Canal in action without spending your entire day on a sightseeing tour! This Miraflores Locks Express Excursion takes you directly to one of the best places in Panama City to watch ships navigate the famous Panama Canal locks. From the observation areas, you can watch massive cargo ships and cruise ships move through the locks as water levels rise and fall around them — a pretty impressive way to spend a couple of hours.

Your round-trip transportation from your Panama City hotel or cruise terminal makes this an easy way to experience one of Panama's most famous attractions, especially if your time in Panama City is limited.

Watch the Panama Canal in Action

There is nothing quite like seeing the Panama Canal actually working. At Miraflores Locks, you can get an up-close look at the process as ships enter the lock chamber, water levels change, and vessels are raised or lowered to continue their journey through the Canal.

The visitor center's viewing areas give you a front-row look at the action, while your bilingual guide can explain what you're seeing and answer questions about the Panama Canal, its history, and how the locks operate.

Ship traffic varies by day and time, so we cannot guarantee a ship will be passing during your visit. But when one of those enormous vessels comes into view, you'll understand pretty quickly why seeing the Canal in person is such a memorable Panama City experience.

Explore the Miraflores Visitor Center

Your admission also includes access to the Miraflores Visitor Center, where you can learn more about the history, engineering and worldwide importance of the Panama Canal. The center is currently undergoing a major modernization designed to create updated exhibition spaces, new viewing areas and more interactive educational experiences. The Panama Canal Authority expects the renovation work to continue through the end of 2026, so some exhibits and facilities may change as the improvements progress.

The visitor experience also includes the Canal's IMAX theater, where you can see the story of the Panama Canal on the big screen before or after watching the real thing from the observation areas. The combination of the film and the live Canal action gives you a much better understanding of just how enormous this engineering achievement really is.

A Great Panama City Excursion When Time Is Limited

If you're staying in Panama City or have a few hours between cruise activities, this Miraflores Locks Express Excursion keeps things simple. We'll pick you up, take you directly to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center, give you time to explore and watch the Canal, and then return you to your hotel or cruise terminal.

No long city tour. No trying to figure out transportation. Just one of Panama's most famous attractions, a fascinating look at the Panama Canal, and the chance to watch those enormous ships squeeze their way through the locks.
